This is a FREE primary source document activity covering two of the most popular and enduring songs from the American Civil War.  The lyrics for “Everybody’s Dixie” and the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” are provided, along with ten student response questions for follow up activities. 

Students are asked to examine the documents and respond to challenging questions regarding the symbolism of the lyrics as well as the author’s intentions.  An answer key is also provided.  The lesson is available for download by clicking on the icon below.
